“The Christian McAusland’s passengers were landed on Quarantine Island. They refused to land if the Palmerston’s passengers were placed there; the latter are still on board. The Board of Health have resolved to place the Palmerston and passengers to lighters at the Sand spit, which is to be proclaimed a quarantine station. The case of scarlet fever progresses favorably, and there is no prospect of its spreading. It is probable that the Christian McAusland will be admitted to pratique in a fortnight The case reported on board the ship Palmerston as gastric fever, turns out to be scarlet fever.” Timaru Herald, 11 December 1872, p 3
