Carol Meikle nee Bungard QSM

I am a devoted mother of three children and a very proud grandmother of five.
I am a proud Board Member of the Polish Heritage Trust of Otago and Southland.

My Great Grandparents Paul and Eva Bungard, who along with their four children were among the first Polish settlers to Otago and Southland NZ, they arrived at Port Chalmers on the ‘Palmerston’ in 1872.

I was born, educated and have worked  in Port Chalmers most of my life. I am blessed to be living in Deborah Bay, overlooking our tranquil Otago harbor, this amazing landscape would have been an overwhelming sight for our Polish Settlers, just as it is today for the many thousands of Cruise ship visitors

I have served the Port Chalmers community in many various ways for most of my adult life.

I was an elected member of the Dunedin City Council, Chalmers Community Board for 12 yrs.

I received the following two honors;

NZ Queen Service Medal and Polish Gold Cross of Merit.
